A Magical Getaway in Palm Springs, CA

Last blog post I promised you I'd share the magical secret getaway location hubby Steve and I traveled to for the holidays. So come on, I'll take you on a tour of the beautiful Palm Springs, CA Villa Royale Inn and Europa restaurant...

To get there, first we'll drive by beautiful cactus all lit up under a big white moon...

And now we're arriving at the Villa Royale inn which has been featured on the cover of the book Distinguished Inns of North America. Legend has it that real-life princesses, writers, Hollywood actors, and others have stayed there to get away from it all...

We're entering the gorgeous courtyard...

Where a beautiful fountain beckons...

And the pool is all lit up for an evening swim...

The outdoor fireplace was adorned for the holidays...

And the little white lights twinkled romantically under the stars...

Let's open the door to the magical dining area lobby...

Where our table elegantly awaits. The Europa restaurant is FAB! It's an experience, not a dinner!

If you'd like to stay at the Villa Royale inn--(We didn't stay overnight there but the manager let me snap this pix.)--They have a variety of impeccably charming rooms like this one...

Where both cozy and sophisticated meet. Don't you LOVE that combo?

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

You're Invited For "Festive Christmas Chicken" Dinner

We had "Christmas company" to our home last night for dinner and I thought you might like to join our party! Below is my recipe for "Festive Christmas Chicken" but sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the actual dish so you could see it. Ooops! But trust me, it's easy to make and very yummy!

We'll make room at our table so you can join us too, okay? Okay!

Do you have a favorite dish you make for your Christmas guests?

Festive Christmas Chicken

Ingredients:

Chicken Breasts
Brie Cheese
Canned cranberry sauce with whole cranberries in it
Butter

1. Use one chicken breast per person. Brown in butter in a frying pan until nicely browned and inside is cooked but not overly done.

2. Transfer the chicken breasts to a buttered casserole pan.

3. Take one can of cranberry sauce with whole berries in it and stir in a bowl to mix. Pour over the chicken like a sauce and cover the dish. Bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees or until inside of chicken is done and tender.

4. Just before removing from oven, put brie cheese slices on top of each piece of chicken and let melt.

Serve immediately. The red cranberry sauce gives it a nice red "Christmas" look.

I served the chicken with mashed potatoes,, asparagus, and squash soup. Everyone raved!

Merry Merry!

Thanks For My Box of LOVE!

I wrote in my last post about how you can have a box of LOVE! And thank you all for the LOVE that you, my readers, clients, colleagues, and friends have sent me via notes, e-mails, and cards. I've put them in my box of LOVE and I read them often!

Here are a few, and I treasure them ALL, just as I treasure YOU!

"Kathryn, thanks so much for the wonderful article. We're very proud of it--I'm also proud to call you my friend." (From a magazine article interviewee.)

"Thank you so much for the support of my art. You are such a treasure and I can see why so many people think so highly of you." (From a private writing client.)

"Thank you so much for spending time with me in San Diego. It was great to finally meet you! Your flowers you brought me made my hotel room feel like home. You are a treasure." (From an e-mail colleague I met online years ago.)

"I have been reading your blog off and on all weekend as I organize. I love your style and everything you write seems so timely and helpful and kind." (From a blog reader in Georgia.)

"I just wanted you to know how much I love your e-newsletters and the links within them. Things have been a bit gloomy here in the UK and your e-mail lights up my month with an hour or two of cozy firesides." (From a blog reader in England.)

"Thanks for your thoughtful gift; you can bet the luggage tags will be attached to our luggage on our next trip! You are writer extraordinaire!" (From a house colleague.)

"Thanks so much for participating in the interview with me; I know our listeners will get so much out of what you have to say!" (From an internet marketer.)

"I cherish our friendship since we were 17 years old and our lengthy e-mails and advice you give! I thank God for you daily." (From my college friend of many years.)

"I very much enjoyed reading through your wisdom-isms. All of them served as a great reminder for me and I am sure they will for others as well." (From a house colleague.)

"Your blog entry was beautiful and touched me deeply; my sister read it and cried too and commented on your writing talent." (From a friend of many years.)

"Congratulations on your writing award; I believe you have talent and hope to hear of exciting things in your future." (From a bestselling author of many Christian books whom I met in person this year.)

"Thanks for your hard work; it has been a pleasure working with you!" (From a national decorating magazine editor.)

"Thank you for all your help; you certainly are an inspiration." (From a private writing client.)

"Thank you for all your time and talent on the recent teleseminar. It was great!" (From home colleagues.)

"Lovely blog! Interesting, inviting, and adorable!" (From a colleague who has written four books.)

"I'm still benefiting from all I learned from you both professionally and personally." (From an organizing client I had not heard from in 10 years.)

And I will never forget this lovely letter I received from a blog reader way back in 2007. It's still on my blog, and I put it in my box of LOVE!

Sending you a big box of LOVE right back!

For You: A Box of LOVE!

Do you have a box of LOVE? Thanks to YOU, I do!

And as this year of 2009 draws to a close, I want YOU to have one too! Here's how:

1. Buy a photo box in a color and pattern that you LOVE. Michaels Craft store carries them and they are only about $5.

2. When you receive a happy, complimentary, gracious, and/or thoughtful e-mail, card, letter, or thank-you note from your customers, clients, family, and friends, put it in your LOVE box.

3. If you're having a down day, pull out your LOVE box and read all the cards and notes. You'll immediately realize how much and how many people LOVE you! Believe me, you'll perk right up!

As this year draws to an end, I thank you, my dear readers, clients, friends, colleagues, and mentors for all the LOVE notes you sent me in 2009. I will share some of them in another post because I treasure each and every one of them, and I treasure YOU! A writer is only as good as her readers, and I LOVE mine! That's YOU!

A blessed end of the year to you and yours! And remember to write a LOVE note to someone you appreciate before the year is through!

Kathryn :)
