My Britt Scripps Inn B&B Article Is Published In Country Victorian Magazine!

The magazine article I wrote about the beautiful Britt Scripps Inn bed & breakfast inn in downtown San Diego, CA is published in the Winter 2010 Special edition of Country Victorian magazine, available at Borders Books and national drugstore and grocery store chains. You won't want to miss this article as the Britt Scripps Inn is one of the most beautiful Victorian inns you could ever visit and is impeccable down to every detail. My hubby Steve and I stayed there and were enthralled by their gorgeous authentic furnishings, scrumptious organic breakfasts, and wonderful hospitality! Owner Gordon B. Hattersley III orchestrated a $6 million historic renovation to return the inn to its original beauty. You can read the article online at Kathryn Bechen Ink. Enjoy!

My Two San Diego Press Club Writing Awards

Last night hubby Steve and I attended the annual San Diego Press Club ceremony for Excellence in Journalism Awards held in beautiful Balboa Park. This press club is proud to be one of the largest in the U.S. with nearly 400 members. I won two writing awards...

The awards ceremony brought a sell-out crowd of 370 people to the Hall of Champions building...
I felt very honored to win two awards as there were approximately 900 entries that were judged by other press clubs around the U.S. I won First Place for my humor article, What's Your Wedding Planning HOT Button, published by San Diego Style Weddings magazine and Nebraska Wedding Day magazine. And I won Third Place for my feature article, Ecological: Make Your Big Day Big Time Green, published by San Diego Style Weddings magazine. Thanks to both magazines for hiring me to write for them and for publishing my work.

Thank you San Diego Press Club for my awards, and for your lovely event filled with fabulous food....

fun festivities...
beautiful tables...

and new writing friends!

San Diego Style Weddings Magazine Annual Fairy Tale Ball

Every year at about this time, a beautiful horse-drawn carriage pulls up to my home to take me and hubby Steve to a very enchanted ball for the evening.... (Okay, so I admit that we really drive there in our used Toyota, but stick with me here and hop in our our backseat along with us because I guarantee you're gonna love this magical evening we're going to spend together at this spectacular ball!) ...

Our carriage has just arrived at the gorgeous Loews Coronado Bay Resort in sunny Coronado Island, CA. (And the valet is now parking our carriage...er, I mean used Toyota. :)

As we enter the grand lobby, we can see the San Diego Bay in the distance, and we're about to celebrate the San Diego Style Weddings magazine annual gala/publishing party to kick off their 2009-2010 magazine and resource guide. I was hired to write six feature articles for this publication and I interviewed many wedding resource experts this year, so I'm excited to see how the newest issue turned out! Ah, the suspense!!

Let's mingle under the lanterns as the sun sets slowly in the distance...

Our theme for the night is sailing, so let's sail away while...

Slowly, the sun sets over the calm waters of the San Diego Bay...

As we toast the night away under twinkling lights...

And the moon peeks out...

And the lights go down...

And the flowers profusely bloom!

Let's lounge awhile...

And feast on scrumptious food designed and made by San Diego's premier wedding caterers...

Did I mention scrumptious food yet??!!...

I think I did!

Our nautical night continues...

As we enjoy the spread...

For "nautical nuptials" ...

And don't forget to try that delectable dessert table!

Every year we vote for the magazine cover we like best. Which one is your favorite?

Do you like this one as much as I do since I'm a flower junkie? :)

It's time to dance the night away....and when the clock strikes midnight...you know what that means....Cinderella's carriage awaits! (Um, meaning the valet will bring back our used Toyota!)

I hope you had fun joining me and hubby Steve at this year's magazine annual publishing gala! If you're not quite ready to go home, you can step back in time and attend the 2007 event and the 2008 event, both of which were equally as magical!

A big thanks to magazine owner Dena Malasek for inviting us to yet another beautiful soiree!

21st Century Book Marketing Conference

My hubby Steve and I have just returned home from Arielle Ford's 21st Century Book Marketing Conference. For two days we listened to bestselling authors and speakers talk about what's hot and what's not in book publishing. The conference was informative and fun and I look forward to implementing many tips I learned into my new book I'm writing.

We had lunch on the lawn at the gorgeous Catamaran Resort on San Diego's beautiful Mission Bay.

And I took a little walk down the beach boardwalk to process my thoughts as I was so inspired by listening to the publishing stories about several bestselling authors!

I hope you take time today to lounge around a bit, sip a cool drink, and read a book by your favorite author!
