Dear Blog Friends,"B" is for "Bechen" and "Bedroom!" We wanted our master bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet suite to feel like our own "B&B" (There's that "B" again!) I also do a lot of writing from my bed, so our goal was to surround ourselves with comfy cozy things that have personal meaning for us and that we have collected for years during our travels or as we are "out and about" on fun weekends together. My general theme for our space was "Rest in Roses." I wanted to make it feel like we had an indoor garden. Do you think we succeeded? :)
Hubby Steve is putting up "bed drapes" here. We hung them over our bed with a painting of a porch laden with colorful flowers. The whole "get up" was only $100 with purchasing the rod at Target and the drapes at Home Goods.
Here's the finished project. The pillows are a bunch I've collected both over time and most recently two for $24.99 at Home Goods for the wonderful rose quilted ones which have down inserts. Very fluffy and comfy. The quilts at the end of the bed have been repurposed back to quilts. I had them in my home office as table covers and wall hangings in our former beach cottage condo. Our regular four pillows have pillow shams on them instead of pillowcases and I just remove them and wash them weekly. Easy.
The window treatments are rose floral king size sheets that we hung on a rod and used metal tiebacks from Wal-Mart to tie back. They turned out great and were an inexpensive way to keep my Rest in Roses theme going.
The bright pink bed rests are from Linens 'n Things. I write from bed a lot so they work great for that.
My white shabby chic nightstands were purchased from a former organizing client and I've received many compliments about them.
I refer to this picture collage on a whole wall as my "Happy Wall" because the pictures are all sentimental and when I'm writing from bed, it makes me happy to look at them.
The picture of the little farmhouse was collected from an art fair we used to go to yearly when we lived in Omaha, Nebraska, and reminds me of my husband's family farm. The kitty drawing was a gift from someone who worked for us. She drew the pix of our kitties Beau & Monique and surprised us. The little I LOVE YOU, KATHRYN heart is from a dear six year old reading student I had who used to write me love notes because I taught her to read.
The rocking chair was hubby Steve's great grandfather's and was brought over from Sweden. The throw is new and I felt it gave the room a little sophistication.
A shabby chic white cabinet from one of my favorite stores in LaJolla, CA, The Corner Store, holds the TV and the cupboard part holds my scrapbooking supplies.
Rose pillows from Home Goods and Marshalls brighten up my rose patterned loveseat that I've had forever and absolutely love.
The scroll table with the marble top is a favorite I found at Pier One years ago. It's not how much you spend--it's having an eye for what looks good and is good quality and it's also how you put it all together to make a "pretty whole."
The Bon Bon decorators did the picnic basket vignette. I think my picnic basket adds a touch of whimsy. I always have home magazines to read. Always!
The loveseat I love so much. It's a Pennsylvania House and was bought many many years ago at the famed Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha, NE. The mart covers nearly a whole city block and is amazing! I used to go there on cold winter days just to enjoy the displays. I learned a lot of decorating techniques that way!
I bought the green architectural piece for $15 at an antique store. It was previously a hideous shade of blue so I repainted it and added some white to "shabby chic" it up. I will tell you about the crosses later.
My little corner vignette is a fountain from Wal-Mart and a silk azalea from Michael's. They both look great in person! And the water sound lulls us to sleep.
Every year for several years hubby Steve and I have attended wonderful marriage retreats at the Mission at San Luis Rey. It's on about 10 acres of beautiful grounds with gardens and is really spectacular. We love it there and have met many wonderful people. It's a sanctuary. Every year we buy a cross as a memento of our time there together and our Christian faith. I found this frame and took the glass and insides out of it and hung just the wood frame on the wall to frame the crosses. It reminds me not to "put God in a box" because you never know what amazing thing he will do in your life. :) And below the frame hangs one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite poets, Emily Dickinson. "Dwell in possibility." :)
This sweet little garden bench has been with me for years as I've moved around. I found it at a consignment shop for $18. It's sturdy, pretty, and useful too.I hope you enjoyed the tour of my restful master bedroom.
